Careers Placements Events: Interview skills and Internships and year placements

ECSWomen is continuing our series of Careers talks, this time presenting two sessions: Interview Skills and Internships and Year Placements.

The first talk will be about interview skills, how to dress appropriately and get ready for an important day for your career life. It takes place on 25th February 2013.

Second talk will be given by YINI (Year in Industry), they will provide 30 min presentation about year-long placements in UK, followed by a snack break. Then Diana Fitch will be giving information about summer internships and internships abroad. It will take place on 11th March 2013.

Both events will take place in Zepler Seminar room 2, starting at 6pm.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Events are open to everyone.

Coffee and Cake with Stella Sharma

Stella Sharma, ECS Graduate working currently in Goldman Sachs will come to visit us on Tuesday, 27th of November. It will be an informal session with coffee and cake provided. You will be able to ask her about her career path, how is her life after University and how did she deal with all the obstacles on her way to success.

The session will take place in Zepler Building, Seminar room 2, from 18.30 till 20.00.

It is a brilliant opportunity to ask any questions you have about being a female in industry.

CV Workshop with Careers from Student Services

On the 12th November, we are holding a CV workshop just in time for your job/placement/internship applications! Collaboration with Careers of Student Services, we organized this workshop/event for our female students in ECS. This workshop will guide you through musts and mustn’ts of a CV when you are a women looking for a job or a placement in engineering and technology areas.
This event will be held in Zepler Seminar Room 1, starting at 18.00 !

We are looking forward to this useful event and suggest that you don’t miss it!

Today, at 7pm we are organizing self confidence session. Our special guest, Doris Prugel-Bennett will be teaching us how to be more confident and find our place within ECS and other students. The event will take place in Mountbatten Building, room 4025 (conference room). It will last about 2 hours. Refreshments will be provided. Please do not hesitate to come, even if you have not sign in to the society yet. Hope to see you all there!

Welcome Pizza Event

As the Freshers Week is getting closer and closer, we would like to invite all new and current members of ECSWomen to our welcome event. Come and meet us, learn about what we do and about our more exciting events in the future. Undergraduates, Posgraduates all welcome.
The event will take place on the 3rd of October (Wednesday) in Zepler Seminar Room 1 – just opposite the Reception. It will be a great opportunity for all of us to get to know each other. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided.

The event will be from 2pm to 4pm, however, this is a drop in session, so just come in whenever you can/want until 4pm !

Higher Education Academy Young Engineers Networking Event

ECSWomen strongly recommends the HEA Young Women Engineering Network Event.
The event is aiming to explore how to encourage and support young women in engineering and manufacturing related fields. There will be presentations form leading figures in the industry and higher education in addition to a series of table discussions for outreach and how to communicate with girls in schools about the benefits of studying and having careers in STEM subjects.

Schlumberger Foundation Call for Applications for the 2013-2014 Faculty for the Future Fellowships

The Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or post-doctoral studies in the physical sciences*, engineering and technology at leading universities abroad*.

The long-term goal of the Faculty for the Future program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing academic careers in scientific disciplines thus contributing to the socio-economic development of their home countries and regions.

The Faculty for the Future program is growing each year and has become a powerful community of 257 women scientists from 62 countries. Grant recipients are selected as much for their leadership capabilities as for their scientific talents. Ultimately they are expected to return to their home countries to continue their academic careers, to further their research, to teach and to become inspirational role models for other young women.

Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs up to a m aximum of USD 50,000 per year and may be renewed through to completion of studies subject to performance, self-evaluation, and recommendations from supervisors.

Candidates should have applied to, have been admitted to, or be currently enrolled in a university abroad* when submitting their Faculty for the Future grant application. Candidates must hold an excellent academic record and be able to evidence their commitment to teaching, research or using science in public policy advocacy. Candidates should demonstrate leadership skills and have a track record in encouraging young women into the sciences.
